Entirely based upon Baruch Spinoza’s writings, The Thing Like Us constitutes the soundtrack to an experimental theatre/sound project dating from 2002, the origin of which is carefully detailed in the CD booklet. Having not seen the performance I approached the recording like an installation in my own room; at moderate volume, Kyriakides’ electronics invisibly wrap the skull as percussion and harpsichord are furnishing the most recognizable timbral guides. The voices whisper or claim according to circumstances, becoming entangled in a net of reiterative dismemberment; quite often, this distracts a little bit from the essential values of the beautiful sound canvas created by the performers. I also advise against performing other activities while spinning the disc, for it would make lose your focus on the music, a primary requirement  to appreciate this difficult release.
