(Petite Sono)

Aidan Baker’s production is augmented by this beautiful release (limited to 100 copies). Divided into four sections, Antithesis is yet another example of the darker moods generated by the Canadian through his guitars, the only sonic source throughout the CD. Apparently unmovable, the “dirtier” strata I’ve heard from Baker in recent times hover all over the place, giving birth to hidden patterns of strange mourning calls that aren’t actually there, although sensible ears will manage to discover them. Even electric crackles and pickup hits are used as a composition/improvisation tool with good success. Putting yourself amidst Baker’s hypnotic washes of vibrating drones is such a beautiful way of passing your time in those moments when you wouldn’t want a tomorrow.
